This 1987 Series III Jaguar XJ6, originally purchased in California then spent 15 years in an Illinois car collection before being purchased by me its third owner in September of 2018. The car is powered by the Jaguar 4.2liter in-line 6 offering 180 Horsepower to the Borg Warner Model 66 three speed transmission. The series III body was considered the most beautiful after are-work by the Italian coach builder Pininfarina. Contemporary designers referred to the Series III as “Art and Machine”. The car shows 93,850 miles. I have added 4,369 since my purchase.

Its long list of standard equipment included a power sunroof, windows, mirrors and antenna, a central locking system, automatic climate control air conditioning with separate rear seat controls, a four-speaker AM/FM cassette stereo, deep pile carpeting, genuine wood veneer trim, leather upholstery, cruise control, four wheel disk brakes and independent suspension. The car's 10-cubic-foot trunk was fully carpeted and enjoyed a bumper-height opening, while its twin "saddle" fuel tanks, sporting chrome fillers atop each rear fender, would hold a range-enhancing 23.6 gallons. 

The VIN Number SAJAV1348HC477636 shows this to be one of the last models built in March of 1987 at the Coventry plant. Ford purchased Jaguar in1989, and the rest is history. The series III is the last great original Jaguar sedan.

The car has the very rare exterior color of Nimbus White with an even more rare interior color of Isis Blue. The paint and interior are original and very well kept. This could easily become a show car, but I prefer calling it my golf and date car.

After 15 years in storage I have painstakingly brought "Sophie Blue" back to weekend driver condition. Since my purchase, I have completed the 90,000-mile service, which includes changing the head gasket, a major undertaking. The cost exceeded $7,000 and a copy of the receipt in included in the maintenance records. The transmission has also been rebuilt as well as the installation of a new power door lock system and a modern Bluetooth Alpine stereo system. The car sits on new Michelin Defender T-H tires.

Included in the sale are the original owner’s manual and associated paperwork, two sets of keys, the car jack and spare tire. The original Jaguar Stereo with Cassette player and head cleaner are also included.The value of the Series three sedans will increase in the future so this will be a solid investment and a great weekend show car.
