This particular long wheelbase XJ6 has had just one registered keeper from new and has covered only 46,400 miles to date. A rare manual overdrive version which makes it far more sporting than the usual 3-speed autos, it was bought new by Dr Patrick Ramage of Fownhope from Lex Mead of Hereford in October 1974. A long run of old tax discs and MOTs show that he used the car up until 1992 when it was put into storage.
Briefly disinterred about 15 years ago, it then seems to have gone back into storage in the North West of England where the vendor discovered it. He was planning to restore the car to its former glory but events have conspired against him and he has reluctantly decided to part with it.
New parts recently fitted include: rear shock absorbers and coil springs; fuel pump; front and rear windscreen rubbers; two gearbox mountings; hub caps and a new set of tyres. The fuel tanks have also been removed, cleaned and painted with new senders fitted. Stainless steel exhausts had been fitted in the past and remain in good condition.
Starting promptly and running well as we moved it around for these photos, it is being offered here as a straightforward restoration project and comes with a nice history file including all the original handbooks, wiring diagrams and a service book with nine Jaguar service stamps up to 27,512 miles in September 1978.
The vendor states that he has amassed various XJ6 spares over the years (including a nice set of correct Jaguar seats) and he is more than happy to pass these on to the new owner at modest cost if it will help to get this Big Cat back on the road where it belongs. A low mileage, one owner car, it should make a fine example once completed.
