Car offered at:
bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-jaguar-xj6/
Sellers description:
Lot #1183
Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Chassis: UD1L70840
67k miles
Color change to Primrose Yellow
4.2L Inline 6-cylinder
New steering rack
Recent transmission service
Private Party or Dealer: Private Party
This 1973 Jaguar XJ6 is a well presented driver which has been repainted in Primrose Yellow rather than the original Sable Brown. It benefits from a new power steering rack and recent transmission service. Some minor interior and finishing work will be required to take this saloon to the next level, though it appears to be a solid example overall. The car indicates 67k miles, and the seller has driven the car around 1000 miles in the last year. It is sold with a clear Oklahoma title
Apart from the color change, this car remains very standard on the outside, with nicely finished trim, wheels and lighting. The color change was done by a previous owner, and per the seller there is no evidence of the original brown remaining. Body rubber; including door seals, trunk seals and window seals, were replaced about ten years ago when the car was repainted.
The twin exhaust tips are the end of a full stainless steel exhaust, and Pirelli P4000 tires with good tread are fitted. A few minor defects in the paintwork are noted, including a small chip in the trunk sill and rust spots on the rear wheelarches said to be less than 1cm each. The driver's door lock is not presently working from the outside.
The interior is said to be original and looks the part. The black leather on the seats is creased and cracked but still serviceble, and there is some looseness and splitting in the door panels. The seller states that despite the wear the foam is in good shape, and the seats remain comfortable and supportive. Dash wood doesn't show the heavy crazing, cracking and splitting often seen in later XJs. While all of the Smiths gauges work, the Kienzle clock has stopped.
The headliner and carpets were replaced about ten years ago, and show well. Note the cool B-Pillar mounted lights. Power windows are all working, though the right rear is said to be slower than the others. Though A/C components remain fitted, the system does not blow cold.
The 4.2L inline 6 shows well underhood with original equipment intact including the stock airbox. The Borg Warner transmission was serviced this year, and a new power steering rack has been fitted. A few issues are noted, including a slightly off alignment and leaky left side gas tank prompting the seller to use the right side only. A minor power steering leak is noted at the input shaft, and there is a minor oil leak at the oil pressure sending unit. During the seller's time with the car only non-ethanol fuel has been used.
Standard XJ6 equipment includes 3-piston front discs, 2-piston inboard rear discs, and widened independent rear suspension inherited from the Mark X saloon. Several shots of the undercarriage are provided, and floors appear straight and dry. Note the stainless exhaust. The left fuel tank leaks at the lower drain bolt, and some evidence can be seen on the paintwork.
