Ebay item 5/4/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1985-Jaguar-Sovereign-HE-V12-/130690293663
Current bid $4,050, no reserve, 10 bids 5 days left in auction. 53k miles.

Sellers description:
1985 model car. Purchased new in Belgium by a Dallas collector in 1985, this car has been meticulously maintained its entire life ( I have all the receipts), as well as a Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust certificate. Never a daily driver, this European Spec V12 (299 BHP, 12.5/1 high-compression HE Engine) was not sold in the United States due to CAFE standards legislation. With a top speed of nearly 150 MPH, and nearly double the horsepower of a Corvette of the same vintage, this was truly a supercar in its day. The original owner added catalytic converters to comply with the Dallas area emissions regulations, and converted the speedometer to MPH (but not the odometer, which still registers KM's). I have original Jaguar NOS downpipes and double-walled intermediate pipes so the converters can be eliminated now that the car is no longer subject to emissions testing, should the new owner wish to return it to its original state. These are included with the sale. Also included is a European spec ECU which will derive maximum performance should the conversion be done. The car runs perfectly as it is, but might be even faster without the converters.
Visually, this car differs from domestic XJ's sold in the American/Canadian market in subtle, but important ways. The rubber portions of the bumpers are three inches slimmer front and rear (total 6" reduction in overall length), and they have integral fog lights. The car has the 7" outboard headlights it was designed to have, not the 5.5" lights that have been retrofitted to US models of the period.
Cosmetically the car is in superb condition. The car received a bare-metal respray in the original Claret Metallic about 5 years ago, and the paint is still stunning. Only a couple of tiny micro bubbles around the lower front windscreen and a couple of minor scratches prevent me from saying the car is perfect.
The original pepper pot (Ogle) wheels have been remanufactured and look better than when they were new. The headliner has been replaced and any chrome showing the slightest wear has been replaced with new.
Inside, the car has new burl walnut dash and door filets from Jaguar (NOS), new leather where needed and upgraded leather on the door pulls, the console cover and door cubbies. The carpet appears new, and there are custom made matching carpet floor mats. The car has never been smoked in, and it still has the rich leather, walnut and Wilton wool smell it had when new.
I've been a Jaguar enthusiast for at least 30 years and have owned many fine Jaguar sports and luxury cars. This is my favorite car.
It presents beautifully and any collector would be proud to own it.
Come and look at the car...you'll want it.

Car returns to ebay 12/4/12

Opening bid $5,700 reserve not met, no bids 6 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Redondo Beach, California, 85k miles.

Sellers description:
1985 Jaguar XJ12. This car runs great . It has been well maintained with the greatest of care. This car is in top notch condition inside and out. The Jaguar drives as great as it runs ,straight and smooth.

I have a history file that is nearly 50 pages long. Complimented with all the original books, service book, handbook etc. An original invoice is also present.

General Condition of The Car.
The interior can only be described as completely original and very very good. Still complete, overugs, fire extinguisher, it is just a lovely place to be. Leather, carpets, door cards, wood etc are all just as you could wish them to be!

The boot compartment is also exceptional. Indeed it appears to have seen very little use. The jack, tool kit are all present and correct, and the spare wheel is complimented with a tire that has yet to see use.

Mechanically the car has wanted for nothing. A 'no expense spared' service history results in a car with an exceptional engine and gearbox. The suspension and steering are also very tight. No waywardness there!

The paintwork is great. While the car is extremely straight and rust and corrosion free. The sills, rear valence and underside are absolutely spotless.

Having said that the drivers side window did not go down the last time I tried it. I have not had a chance to take it to the dealer to check it out what the problem is. However all the other windows doorlocks and the like all work as they should. The A/C is ice cold.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
