We are delighted to offer this 1983 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 in Chestnut Brown Metallic with Biscuit leather interior. First registered in August 1983, it has had 7 previous owners. Although we don’t have the service book, there is a good bundle of invoices for parts and maintenance dating back to the late nineties. We understand that it had a restoration in 1997 including a bare metal respray (photos supplied) and then in 2005 a reconditioned engine was fitted. Our vendor has kindly summarised the recent history as follows:-
2024 - Installed Town and Country Quad Dip LED Headlight system
2024 - Full Service including Transmission Fluid and Filter and Diff Oil change
2024 - Fuel Injector service with renewal of all high-pressure rubber fuel lines under the bonnet
2023 - 77,500 miles, oil service including new spark plugs
2022 - 75,000 miles, Steering rack bushes and subframe front mounting bushes replaced. Cylinder head rebuild. Described on North Wales Jag Centre invoice
2019 - 73,500 miles. Reconditioned transmission and torque convertor installed
2018 - 73,000 miles. Full service - £2,000 including propshaft and brake overhauls
2017 - Both fuel tanks, all the twin tank changeover valves and fuel pipes were replaced
Although we cannot guarantee the mileage, the MOT certificates dating back to 1990 are supportive of the moderate recorded figure. Of course, it would now qualify as a historic vehicle and no longer requires an MOT.
Outside, the paint is actually a copper-ish colour that really suits the swooping lines of the Series 3. It’s coming up on 30 years since the respray and there are a few areas of bubbling that have appeared, most notably around the front and rear screens, but it remains a very presentable example. We would urge you to check out our suite of photos or, even better, come and see the Jag yourself. It’s unusual to see an XJ that doesn’t sit on alloy wheels but, with the stainless steel trims being in such lovely condition, we would see this as real positive. Pleasingly, the tyres are a matching set of Bridgestones. The cabin presents nicely, the mix of wood, leather and chrome being just what you would expect from a classic Jaguar. The wood on the dash is in great shape and there are no nasty modifications. Charming little touches like the original stereo and a working pop-up mirror in the glovebox put a smile on your face. The stitching on the back seat is beginning to degrade a little and would benefit from a bit of attention to bring it up to the standard of the rest of the cabin.
The Jaguar comes with V5C, current and old MOTs, a bundle of invoices, maintenance handbook and restoration photographs.
