This 1986 Jaguar XJ6 is a Series III sedan with just under 7,300 indicated miles on its 4.2-liter straight-six and a 3-speed automatic transmission. The car is said to have spent the majority of its life in New Jersey and was purchased from its second private owner by the selling dealer approximately a year ago. A head gasket replacement has since been carried out along with the installation of new galvanized head studs, and a written log from the prior owner lists extensive service performed over the past five years. Described as stock example that is ready to drive, this XJ6 is sold with a clean Carfax report and a clear Illinois title.
Dark red paint and gold pin striping present well overall according to the seller, who believes the sunroof and trunk lid have been repainted. Small blemishes such as rock chips near the headlights are shown in detail, with tape lines on the sunroof also described by the seller.
Factory 15″ Kent wheels are mounted with original-style Pirelli P4000 SuperTouring tires that should likely be replaced due to sidewall cracking. Included close-up photos detail the condition of the chrome-capped rubber bumpers and other exterior hardware. Recent cosmetic work included replacement of the left rear marker light in summer 2016 and a new Jaguar hood ornament in 2014.
Biscuit-colored leather, chrome, and burl wood trim are photographed in detail below along with factory controls and switchgear. A power sunroof and onboard computer are equipped, and a Jaguar-branded tape deck remains mounted in the center stack. A door lock actuator, front left arm rest pad, heater valve and two hoses were replaced in 2013. The trunk retains a clean carpeted liner and a matching factory tool roll.
Factory instrumentation includes a 6-digit odometer showing just under 7,300 miles. The seller believes the mileage to be accurate based on a conversation with a former dealer and records kept by the second owner. The air conditioning system was serviced in 2013 with a new compressor, low pressure line, expansion valve, and drier, while R134a refrigerant was recharged in summer 2016.
The injected 4.2-liter straight-six shifts through a Borg Warner 3-speed automatic and was recently treated to a head gasket service along with the installation of new galvanized head studs as preventive maintenance due to extended periods of disuse. All freeze plugs were replaced at the same time. Ribbed camshaft covers were refinished concurrently with the recent head work, while new fuel vapor system hoses and a fresh Interstate battery were installed in 2016. Additional replacements in the past five years included a rebuilt Lucas alternator, and a fresh transmission pan gasket.
Underbody photos show the general condition of the drivetrain, suspension and floors. New sway bar end link bushings were installed in April 2017, and a replacement left rear Boge shock in 2016. Both fuel tanks were replaced due to corrosion along with the left-side fuel level sender in April 2014. Rear springs and front subframe bushings were replaced in 2013 at 6,251 indicated miles along with repacking and resealing of the stub axles. The seller describes light surface rust on the outer lower valence that has been treated and wraps under the car from parking curb scrapes.
The Carfax report shows no accidents, thefts, or other issues. A written service log was kept by the previous owner, and an invoice is provided below for the recent work carried out by the selling dealer.
