This 1982 Jaguar XJ6 was reportedly used as a dealership demonstration vehicle before being acquired by the seller’s grandmother in February 1983, and it has since covered 80k of the 83k miles shown. The 4.2-liter inline-six was serviced in 2024, a process that included replacing the spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, thermostat, air flow meter, and oxygen sensor. Wearing a repaint Portland Beige over brown leather upholstery, the car is equipped with a three-speed automatic transmission, a sunroof, a power antenna, 15″ Kent vented alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, front bucket seats, automatic climate control, and cruise control. This Series III XJ6 is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the owner with the owner’s manuals, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.

The Pininfarina-styled bodywork left the factory finished in Portland Beige (AEA), and the seller notes the car was repainted in 2012. Exterior features include a Leaper hood ornament, a power sunroof, a power antenna, power-adjustable side mirrors, bright trim, and dual exhaust outlets.

The 15″ Kent vented alloy wheels are mounted with GT Radial Champiro VP1 tires, and braking is handled by ventilated front and solid inboard rear discs. In June 2024, a service inspection noted that the brake hoses should be replaced. At that time, the driver’s front wheel bearing was adjusted, and a brake fluid flush was performed.

The seating surfaces are trimmed in brown leather while burl wood accents the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Interior equipment includes an AM/FM/cassette stereo, front bucket seats, automatic climate control, power windows and locks, and cruise control. The front seat padding is recommended to be replaced, per a June 2024 service invoice.

The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as gauges for oil pressure, voltage, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows 83k miles, approximately 80k of which were added under current ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory rated at 205 horsepower and 231 lb-ft of torque. The spark plugs, drive belts, thermostat, and valve cover gaskets were replaced in June 2024, and the air flow meter was replaced in July of that same year. A rough idle was noted on a July 2024 invoice, and a hesitation is present when accelerating from a stop.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a BorgWarner three-speed automatic transmission. A June 2024 service invoice states that the transmission pan gasket is seeping, and an oxygen sensor was replaced in July 2024.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
