Auction description:
1973 Jaguar XJ12 S2 LWB
First Registered: 1973
Registration No: OJR 160 M
Mileage: 55,500
Chassis No: 2R1207BW
MOT: March 2016
Colour: Turquoise

This is an early XJ12 series 2 LWB Saloon and has the 4 carburettor engine. It is finished in the original rare Jaguar colour scheme and comes with a comprehensive history from new which has been provided by the previous owner. He gives the details of just two former keepers (both from the same family) and confirms the milage of 55000 miles. The car was used regularly for the first 7 years of its life and had a recorded mileage of 51810 in November 1980. There is a main dealer stamped service book covering this period together with all the invoices for the servicing and repairs as well as the original owners full wallet, handbook and PDI. The car was then in dry storage for over 20 years before being purchased as part of a deceased persons estate. After storage lasting another 10 years recommisioning was started by the previous owner from whom we acquired the vehicle in 2013. The car was in an amazing unmolested and original condition as the photographs taken at the time show.

We undertook a moderate amount of restoration work whilst being careful not to change the general character and patina of the car. Work included a full suspension, steering, and brake overhaul with rear suspension frame removal. Seals and rubber components were replaced as necessary and the complete fuel system reconditioned or replaced. There is a brand new exhaust system with specialist fabricated stainless steel down pipes copied from the originals. The XJS wheels have been refurbished with original steel wheels still being available. Chromework was rechromed as necessary and bodywork repaired and refurbished in the original turquoise colour. The interior was left untouched apart from a clean and all the carpets remain original. The car was finally MOT'd in March 2015 with no advisories.

This XJ12 has been enjoyed this Summer for special occasions such as High School Proms. It is a very practical and usable classic Jaguar with pleanty of space and pace combined with reasonable handling even by todays standards. It certainly has charm which is typified by the spare key which remains screwed to the inner wing where it was secured well over 40 years ago.

Guide Price: £5,000 to £6,000

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
