Car to be at auction 4/26

Auction description:

18th Apr, 2026 The Barons MPC South April 2026 Auction

1973 Jaguar XJ6

*Just Arrived*

Estimate £4,000 - £6,000

Registration: UPA 970M

Chassis: 2H2868BW

Odometer: T.B.C

Transmission: Automatic

This 1973 Jaguar XJ6 is a Series 2 example, benefiting from subtle refinements over the earlier cars while retaining the classic XJ styling and driving experience.

Notably, this car is the short wheelbase (SWB) version, a rarer and more desirable configuration compared to the more common long wheelbase cars, offering slightly sharper proportions and a more driver-focused feel.

Finished in a classic deep green with a matching green leather interior, it presents as a quintessential 1970s Jaguar luxury saloon.

This 1973 example presents as a very attractive, usable classic finished in a deep British Racing Green-style colour, paired with a striking and period-feel green leather interior and wood veneer dashboard.

The paintwork presents well overall with a good shine and dept although there are some visible age-related imperfections, including light scratches and swirl marks (notably on the bonnet). There is also minor bubbling/rust starting around window trim areas (as shown), with the chrome work (grille, bumpers, trims) appears complete and presentable. The car sits well on correct-style wheels with period look.

A striking interior showcases a very characterful, green leather interior in good overall condition, with the seats show light wear consistent with age, but remain presentable and usable. The classic wood veneer dashboard is in place, adding to the period luxury feel.

The vehicle drives well but will need some light re-commissioning with attention needed to the brakes.

A rare short wheelbase Series 2 Jaguar XJ6, combining elegant styling, smooth performance and increasing collectability. With its desirable specification and honest condition, this example represents a great opportunity to enjoy a classic Jaguar as intended, while offering scope for further improvement if desired.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
