Stunning looks
Lovely red leather interior, in great condition
Superb 5.3-litre V12 engine with carburettor upgrade
OUU 563 R was first registered on 1st August 1976. The vendor believes he is only the fourth owner, having bought the car just over a year ago. At some point in its recent history the car has had a carburettor upgrade, being fitted, according to the vendor: “…with six Weber IDF-40 carburettors on 16mm short-stack trumpets complete with K&N filters.
At the same time, the fuel system was upgraded to a high-pressure pump with regulator. The car was then rolling-road tuned and the carbs rejetted to suit”. The car has been fitted with a custom-made bonnet to incorporate this upgrade, as evidenced by the distinctive bulge in the bonnet.
Paperwork
The car comes with a folder of paperwork including a number of receipts from its history. The most recent MoT certificate is from 2013, when the mileage was recorded as 53, 804. As an historic vehicle, the car is now tax- and MoT-exempt.
Exterior
The car looks resplendent in its off-white paint, although there are some small blisters on the paint on the offside front wing, with a bigger blister adjacent to the bonnet bulge.
Otherwise, the paintwork is pretty much immaculate, and the car certainly shone on the sunny winter’s morning of our photo shoot. The black vinyl roof looks great, with no evidence of blistering or damage. The car looks particularly good with all the windows down!
All of the brightwork looks good and is largely unmarked, although the ‘Daimler’ badge on the rear is missing.
All four wheels are in excellent condition, and the tyres look to have plenty of life left in them. The headlamps and rear lights are unmarked.
Interior
The car’s interior looks to be completely original but is in remarkably good condition. The red leather seats look superb, with some signs of wear only on the driver’s seat, as you would expect with a car of this age. The passenger and rear seats are in excellent condition, although the rear seats could do with a wipe down.
The carpets are similarly good, with no stains or marks and a few signs of wear in the driver’s footwell. This is clearly a car that has been carefully looked after. The centre console and dashboard wood are also in excellent condition, while the dash-top has no evidence of fading or cracking, suggesting the car has been garaged for most of its life.
The door panels are pretty good, although there is a scuff on the passenger door panel. Typical of Daimlers of this era, the car displays some nice touches, like the vanity mirror in the glove box lid.
In the boot, the carpet has a few marks but is remarkably good for its age.
There is a jack and tool roll in the original sleeve, and the original tools are all in place if somewhat rusty. Under the floor of the boot is a sound-looking spare wheel and tyre.
Mechanics
The car starts on the first turn of the key, and the V12 engine sounds great. The car accelerates well and there is no sign of smoke from the exhaust. The automatic gearbox makes smooth changes, with no unwelcome noises. All the switchgear seems to work as it should, including (unusually) all four electric windows and the sunroof.
Under the bonnet, everything is pretty clean and tidy and again shows that the car has been cherished. There is a modern battery.
Underneath the car, everything looks good and there are no apparent leaks or rust.
