Lot #155575
This 1970 Jaguar XJ6 is a Series I example that was sold new at Geisslers British Motor Cars of Walnut Creek, California and was acquired as a non-running project by the seller in 2020. Subsequent work included the installation of a replacement 4.2-liter inline-six and a rebuild of the three-speed automatic transmission, along with a repaint and replacement of the steering rack, fan clutch and thermostat, and exhaust system. The car is finished in red over tan leather and is equipped with 15″ steel wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, and an AM/FM radio. This XJ6 is offered at no reserve with a window sticker, service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in red and was repainted in April 2023, at which time the windshield seal and rear window seal were replaced. The power antenna is inoperative and there are scratches on the windshield.
The 15″ steel wheels wear factory covers and are wrapped in 205/75 Cooper Trendsetter whitewall tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs. A replacement steering rack was installed in 2020 and the front upper and lower ball joints were replaced in 2021.
The seating surfaces are upholstered in tan leather, and interior details include a wood dashboard, power windows, and a Philips AM/FM radio. The headliner was replaced and leather repairs performed on the seats in June 2024. The air conditioning compressor has been removed, there are cracks in the dashboard, there is wear on the upholstery, and the wind laces are separating.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer, while auxiliary gauges are housed in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 72k miles. True mileage is unknown. The seller notes that the left fuel level sending unit does not work.
The replacement 4.2-liter inline-six is said to have been sourced from a 1970 Jaguar XJ6 and was installed in 2020. Additional work at that time involved rebuilding the dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors, modifying the distributor with a vacuum advance, and replacing the oil pan, fan clutch, thermostat, and exhaust system.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a three-speed Borg Warner transmission, which was rebuilt in February 2021.
The window sticker shows original delivery to Geisslers British Motor Cars of Walnut Creek, California along with factory options and a total price of $8,160.
Sold for $6,500
