Ebay item 12/25/15 www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-XJ-XJ12L-/272084907963
Opening bid US $1,500, no bids, no reserve, 4 days left in auction. Selleropdownclassics, 39k miles.
Sellers description:
Had gas fed fire under hood. Damage all in front of firewall except some heat to driver's door panel where I left the door open when I bailed out. The car was running rough. A call to the mechanic and I was told, there is probably just trash in the fuel, just drive it. Ten minutes later a fireball roiled over the hood. It appears the fuel line was partially disengaged from the fuel rail. When the gar got hot it burned. Purely a fuel fire. The damage on the hood shows the location of the heat. The front tires caught fire and burned the fenders pretty bad. It would seem the damage under the hood it limited to rubber and wiring. New sheet metal would probably be in order. I can help the buyer source if necessary.
This was my personal car. It was, in essence, my daily driver. It needs to be rebuilt as it is EXTREMELY low mileage. A very beautiful car MARRED by fire I had to bailout. Realizing that my cellphone was still in the car I reached back in and got it so I could call the Fire Department and a ride home since I had several hundred dollars of groceries in the trunk. (I lost a chicken).
I don't drive much anymore due to spinal cord damage so it is for someone else to get this wonderful car back on the road.
It has been repainted once. The bottom of the backseat is vinyl, not leather. I didn't notice for a couple months but it wasn't aged like the rest. Beyond those two things I don't know of anything that was different then when it rolled off the factory floor other than ongoing maintenance.
