Car at auction 6/26

Auction description:
1976 Jaguar XJ6 Series II Sedan - NO RESERVE [Location: Melbourne]
Chassis number: 2T21427BW
Engine number: 8L109873-H
Registration number: 8880-HO (Victoria)
Delivered new by the Mildura (Victoria) Jaguar dealer to a local business, this 1976 XJ6 Series II was ordered with velour cloth rather than leather facings/vinyl trim, perhaps a nod to the very hot local climate.
Otherwise, this XJ6 is much as you’d expect, powered by the 4.2 litre six-cylinder engine and three-speed automatic transmission.
Presented in White, on those familiar hubcapped steel wheels, inside it wears Tan fabric seat and door trim, enhanced by Brown carpets and headlining. All very ‘70s.
Not much is known of its early life, however it is thought to have ended up in the hands of a Jaguar enthusiast, from whom it was purchased by a well-known Victorian car valuer, who used it for several Victorian motoring events before it was purchased by our vendor around two years ago.
Since then, the XJ6 has travelled less than 1000km while being used for family outings along country roads or down the Peninsula, and is only now offered due to lack of shed space.
Along its 50 year journey, this XJ6 has received a 4.2 litre Series III engine and a manual choke setup, while its paint looks to have been refreshed at some stage.
Today, it presents well overall, with paintwork that is showing a few small cracks in places but is otherwise pretty good.
Now indicating 75,835km, inside the cabin is very original and in decent shape, although some of the lacquer on the dashboard woodwork is peeling off, and the front seats are a bit saggy from use.
A later Kenwood stereo/CD player is fitted to the dash.
Recent work has included a full mechanical check over and automatic transmission service, plus a review of its cooling system. According to the vendor, the only known issue is that the air-conditioning system needs a service.
Accompanying this Jaguar XJ6 saloon is a very large collection of invoices and receipts, detailing extensive work done by the present and past owners.
One of Jaguar’s most iconic models – and as a result increasingly collectible – this 1976 XJ6 Series II is set to be both perfect for family fun and a very affordable classic.
