First registered in November 1972, this rare long wheel-base V12 is in outstandingly original condition throughout and had just one owner from new until June last year. Always garaged throughout its life, it has covered only 31,300 miles from new and has never been welded or even been out in the rain. Apart from a repaint in the original Regency Red about 20 years ago, it is exactly as it left the factory in 1972.

Recently unearthed from a long period in storage, it has been thoroughly recommissioned by the current (second) owner at a cost of some £6,000. This included fitting new head gaskets and skimming the cylinder heads; stripping and rebuilding the carburettors; fitting a new distributor cap, coil, leads and plugs; replacing all fluids; reconditioning the radiator; removing and cleaning the fuel tanks; fitting new engine mountings, alternator, power steering pipes, water pump, battery and air conditioning pump. Four new tyres and a new exhaust have also been fitted. Since the recommissioning was completed the car has covered around 1,000 trouble-free miles and is due to be driven some 130 miles to the sale.

With an MOT until September 2011 and taxed until next August, it comes with its original owner’s handbook and wallet, the original plastic seat covers it has had from new, some contemporary magazine road tests, and even a spare set of original Dunlop SP tyres, although these have recently been replaced on the car with modern equivalents. Altogether a superb example of an extremely rare and desirable car that is worthy of the serious Jaguar collector. Try and find a better one…

This particular car, RDA 99L, is the 87th off the production line and is the oldest surviving XJ12L, being built in October 1972. As such, importantly, it is road tax free (despite its huge engine!) and is eligible for parking in the pre 73 car park at the Goodwood Revival Meeting (where it has been for the last two years). RDA 99L was bought new by a West Country farmer from Harris Motors in Wells. He owned the car for the following 37 years during which time it was serviced by Rothwell and Milbourne of Glastonbury. The car was laid up in a barn in the 1980's having covered just 30,000 miles. It was bought by its second owner in 2009 and recommissioned at a cost of over £6000. The vendor bought the car in 2010 following which it has been regularly serviced (bills for over £1250) and has covered just 1500 miles, mainly for trips to shows and car events.

RDA 99L is a remarkably original car. She has never been welded and is utterly solid. Her interior is beautiful and the only modification made, by the vendor, was to fit rear seat belts (for his children). The car was specified with air conditioning and after an overhaul even this works. The car comes complete with her original tool kit, work shop manual, and sales brochures. She also comes with a heritage certificate. This year the car will turn 40 but she still turns heads wherever she goes! You will not find another Series 1 XJ12 like her.

Finished in regency red with biscuit leather, this remarkable XJ12L is offered complete with an MoT through to September 2012 and Historic tax to Aug 2012.
