This 1979 Jaguar XJ12L is a Series II model which was acquired by the seller from its third owner in 1996 and is finished in Silver Grey over black leather. Power is from a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and modifications include an SNG Barratt ignition conversion as well as an XJS fuel cooler. An oil change, brake and electrical work, an air conditioning system recharge, and other service was performed in the past two years. This XJ12L is offered with score sheets from Jaguar Clubs of North America events, a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, spare parts, records from the second owner to present, an owner’s manual, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.
The exterior was finished in Silver Grey (260) from new, and is said to have been repainted approximately 20 years ago. The seller notes a touched-up chip on the left front fender crease as well as cracks in the A-pillars. The windshield has been replaced with a new-old stock Triplex unit, with scratches noted on the other windows. A passenger-side exterior mirror has been added.
Chrome 15″ factory wheels with replacement gold Jaguar medallions wear 215/60 Pirelli P4s mounted in 2018, and a second set of 15″ factory chrome wheels with original-sized tires for judging is included in the sale. Rebuilt rear brake calipers were installed in 2017 along with new rotors and pads, while replacement of front brake lines, a front caliper rebuild, and a fluid flush were carried out in 2018.
The cabin is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets and a replacement burl wood dash panel sourced from Madera Concepts. The front seats were rebuilt and reupholstered in 2017, and the rears were restitched and dyed to match. A replacement headliner and wool floor overmats were sourced from BAS, while undermats were custom made. The door locks are said to be inoperable.
The instrument cluster houses a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer along with gauges for fuel, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amperage. Just under 7k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, which is said to have rolled over. Approximately 27k miles have been added by the seller in 24 years. The air conditioning compressor, receiver drier, and expansion valve were replaced in 2017, though the system is said to blow cool rather than cold and the fan does not operate on high speed. Additional service in the last two years included:
Heater repair
Flasher unit
Wiper switch and relay
Brake light switch
Dash gauge function repair
Speedometer angle drive
Speedometer rebuilt by Nisonger
The 5.3-liter V12 has been fitted with an SNG Barratt ignition conversion kit including a distributor, amplifier, ballast resistor, and ignition coil. A May 2018 engine fire led to the replacement of the fuel injection and engine wiring harnesses, replating of the metal fuel and air lines, and replacement of the rubber lines, spark plug wires, stainless steel hose clamps, and oil pressure sender. Additional service has included:
Air rail O-rings
Throttle position sensor
Cold start relay and injectors
ECU replacement
Thermo-time switch
Gaskets at the oil filter head
Oil filter lines
Oil feed lines to the cams, cam covers, and cam half-moons
Oil and transmission cooler lines at the radiator, transmission pan, and engine sump
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed GM TH400 automatic transmission. The catalytic converters and intermediate mufflers have been removed, with the latter included in the sale. A seep is noted from the rear main seal.
Service records starting with the second owner are included in the sale along with the Jaguar Heritage Certificate and JCNA concours sheets.
